Dr. Joe Pierce
Head of School – John W. Rex Charter Elementary School
Joe Pierce knows the world of education. His passion for learning, commitment to students and enthusiasm for innovation are the perfect combination to lead Oklahoma City’s first downtown elementary school.
As head of school for John W. Rex Charter Elementary, Pierce is responsible for day-to-day operations including, construction of the 79,000 square-foot facility, development of curriculum, recruitment of students and teachers and community and business outreach.
Pierce has over 30 years of experience in education. He previously served as Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment at Putnam City Schools, and he also worked at Edmond Public Schools as founding Principal at West Field Elementary School and Principal at Orvis Risner Elementary School.
Pierce received the National Distinguished Principal Award and Oklahoma Elementary Principal of the Year for 2007, along with numerous other awards throughout his career. He is actively involved in the Oklahoma City community with both professional and charitable organizations.
He holds a doctorate of education in curriculum and instruction from Oklahoma State University, a master’s degree in school administration from the University of Central Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Olivet Nazarene University.
Pierce has been married 25 years to Joy. They have two children, Harrison and Clara. In his free time, Joe enjoys traveling, spending time with his family and serving at his church.
John Rex Charter Elementary School offers a one-of-a-kind, quality education to economically and racially diverse students. The school is strategically placed in downtown Oklahoma City to provide teachers and students easy access to government, legal and cultural opportunities. The campus’ proximity to the Civic Center Music Hall, the Myriad Gardens and City Hall gives students walking access to multiple learning experiences.
