We Love OKC
At John Rex, we’re passionate about connecting with other downtown organizations and finding new ways to uplift our neighbors. This is why our theme for the year is We Love OKC, which captures our ongoing commitment to involve students in service opportunities — and have fun while doing it.
In September, our middle school students teamed up with Scissortail Park to launch one of the first fishing electives in downtown OKC. 5th through 8th grade students learned about water safety, aquatic life and proper fishing techniques. The group will meet weekly to put their skills to the test and embrace the great outdoors. You can check out the full news clip here!
Each grade level is teaming up with a local group to make a difference. The best part? John Rex Rockets are free to work on several projects and learn at the same time! We cannot wait to see what this year has in store with these groups and our wonderful partners:
- PreK – Humane Society
- Kindergarten – OKC Police Department
- 1st Grade – St. Anthony’s Hospital
- 2nd Grade – Keep Oklahoma Beautiful
- 3rd Grade – Myriad Gardens
- 4th Grade – Scissortail Park
- 5th Grade – Food Bank
- 6th Grade – Palomar
- 7th Grade – Homeless shelters
- 8th Grade – Little Read Wagon
