Coronavirus – Update 3.16.20
John Rex parents and families,
Following the recommendation set forth by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, John Rex Charter School will close until April 5, 2020. Classes at JRCS are expected to resume Monday, April 6.
We understand this change will result in families having to adjust their plans, and we are working with our state department of education and local health agencies to prepare resources to make this time easier.
John Rex has additional days built into our school calendar to allow for extended emergency school closures. At this time, a closure of two weeks does NOT require our school to make up school days or school hours.
We are working hard to provide resources. We will continue to update this page. Currently, it shares resources from the CDC and Oklahoma State Department of Education. We will provide updates regarding educational resources, meals and family support by Tuesday, March 24.
● Educational Resources: Although we will not require parents/guardians to provide academic instruction, we would like to provide a list of approved, research based online resources that can be accessed at home. In addition, we’ll share suggested activities, which do not require online access. These are only suggested resources should a family choose to use them.
● Meals: Another priority we’re focusing on is meal support. We’re applying for a waiver to make grab-and-go breakfast and lunch available to families. As soon as this information becomes available, we will update our school community.
● Family Support: Our elementary teachers are working on creating videos (much like the videos they created for Meet the Teacher Night) that will be sent out via ClassTag as a personal message to their students. Our teachers will be providing their availability to communicate with their students next week.
Updates will be forthcoming. If you have any questions, please email me at hzacarias@johnrexschool.org.
Thank you for your cooperation and support. Despite these uncertain times, it is my sincere hope that we pull together as a John Rex family. I am in regular contact with local, state, and federal health officials as well as our Board Chair and will continue to provide updates for our school community as information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding during these times of uncertainty.
Sincerely,
Heather Zacarias
Interim Superintendent
John Rex Charter School
