John Rex School Board Supports Teacher Walkout
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 19, 2018) – In a special meeting Monday night, John Rex Charter Elementary School’s board of directors unanimously passed a resolution in support of its teachers as they decide whether to participate in a possible teacher walkout beginning April 2.
The resolution mentions the chronic inadequate funding of public education and implores the Oklahoma Legislature to raise the necessary revenue to increase teacher pay and school funding.
“We are prayerful that the Oklahoma legislators will resolve these issues and fulfill their primary constitutional obligation to maintain a system of public schools before a walkout occurs,” said Dr. Joe Pierce, Head of School at John Rex Charter Elementary School. “A funding solution is needed so that our dedicated educators across Oklahoma may stay true to their passion and calling of educating our future leaders.”

If a teacher walkout lasts more than five days, board members plan to meet again to consider the situation.
