An Important Message from our Board Chair

John Rex community:

As you have probably heard, Dr. Joe Pierce, our head of school and superintendent, is leaving his position effective Feb. 14, 2020. At that time, he will join another school district in the greater metro area. We wish him the best in his new role and reflect on everything he has done for John Rex.

Our school would not be the same without Dr. Pierce’s influence. Since its inception, he has played a critical role developing our curriculum. More importantly, he set the tone and high standards at our school. He created an exemplary educational environment by displaying a drive for excellence and genuine care for our children.

He has accomplished many great things during his time at John Rex. He made crucial hiring decisions to create a staff to enhance and carry out the vision for a diverse and innovative school. He implemented fundraising to support our initiatives to provide an enriched curriculum, like additional STE[+a]M education. And he managed complicated processes to expand to two new sites and add the junior high grades our families desired. Along the way, he nurtured our children, encouraged the staff and represented us ideally in the community.

We are committed to building on the foundation Dr. Pierce established, and we are in good hands. Heather Zacarias, our Director of Elementary Education, will serve as interim superintendent as the board begins the search for our next great leader. We will begin the process immediately, with hopes to secure the right person within 90 days. We will keep you informed along the way.

Know this: John Rex Charter School will continue to provide the exemplary, innovative learning environment our students expect and deserve.

As always, we are grateful to our experienced, dedicated staff and teachers. They will keep everything running smoothly as we move forward together.

The board and I would also like to thank each of you for your continued support and enthusiasm for our community.
Sincerely,

Nathaniel Harding, Chairman
John Rex Charter School Board of Directors
